My Experience with PlayHT: The AI Voice Tool That Sounds Human
If you are preparing for IELTS or trying to improve your English, you know how hard it is to find good audio to practise with. Recently I tried PlayHT, and it has become one of my favourite study tools.
If you are preparing for IELTS or trying to improve your English, you know how hard it is to find good audio to practise with. Recently I tried PlayHT, and it has become one of my favourite study tools.
What is PlayHT?
PlayHT is an AI Voice Generator that turns text into natural, human-like speech. You type or paste your text, choose a voice, and get audio in seconds. What surprised me most was how real the voices sound. They don't have the flat, robotic tone I expected.
My Favourite Voice: Adam
There are many voices to choose from, but my favourite is Adam. His voice is clear, warm and easy to follow, which is great for learners. I also like that the tool offers a wide variety of voices, so you can switch accents and styles depending on what you need.
Emotions That Feel Real
PlayHT can mimic emotions, so the voice doesn't just read your words, it performs them. Excitement, calm or seriousness can all be heard in the delivery. For language learners, this matters a lot, because real English conversation is full of tone and feeling, not just correct pronunciation.
Why It Is Great for IELTS and English Practice
If you want a voice for your IELTS preparation, I think this is one of the best options. Here is how I use it:
- Listening practice: I paste in reading passages or my own notes and listen to them as audio.
- Speaking models: I generate sample answers and repeat after the voice to improve my pronunciation and rhythm.
- Shadowing: I play a short script and speak along with it to build fluency.
- Self-review: I write my own answers, listen to how they sound, and spot awkward phrases.
Going Further: Voice Cloning
PlayHT also offers voice cloning, which is worth exploring if you want a more personalised voice for your projects.
Final Thoughts
PlayHT is easy to use, flexible, and surprisingly realistic. Whether you are a scholarship applicant, an IELTS candidate, or just someone improving your English, it can make practice more enjoyable and effective. Try it yourself and tell me in the comments which voice becomes your favourite. Mine is still Adam!
